At age eighteen, he chose to leave his family and join Arcia United in their struggle against the earth alliance. He took an uncanny skill to long range sniping, but never saw any field action. Ever since his enlisting with AU, he has been training. However, now with a new foe, Apothos Private Military, he readies himself for the worst. Sample writing: Lucius, alarmed to see his squad leader dead upon the ground, threw himself out of the transport and took cover behind a small barricade. The only man left in the squad followed behind him. Bullets zinged past the thin metal barricade as Lucius attempted to solve this predicament. He cast his gaze up at the dark, stormy sky above him. All at once, he thought of a plan.
He saw the next wave of troop transports coming down for a landing and knew that he had only moments to act.
“Soldier! What’s your name?” Lucius yelled. “Dawning, Sir! Private First Class!” the boy yelled back. “Private Dawning, when I say “go” I want you to sprint to the barricade 10 yards up and to your left. Got it?” Lucien said. “Yes, sir!” dawning said.
“GO!”
Just as Dawning left the barricade, Lucius whirled up out of cover and aimed down his scope. The small sniper rifle could barely reach the two-story bunker with any killing power, but Lucius knew that he would have to make it work. As the turret of the bunker aimed for Private Dawning, Lucius fired one shot and ducked back behind the low wall. The turret fell silent just as the next troop transports were landing.
Lucius recognized a field commander in the co-pilot’s seat of a transport and thought that the battle must truly be desperate if they were sending him to the front lines. The commander boomed over a loud speaker “All forces are required to charge at this moment or you will be shot!” Lucius didn’t understand, but instinctively acted as he was trained to do. The entirety of the Arcia United forces charged the bunker.
250 yards left….now only 200….150….100….50….but then, the spooling of the bunker’s Gatling turret. Lucius dove to the ground only to see hundreds of his comrades butchered by the thousands of rounds being sent down range by the turret. He blacked-out momentarily and awoke to hear nothing save for a few distant gunshots.
“Am I dead?” he thought. However, he would receive no such reprieve. He clenched his hand to find that he still held his rifle. It had become clogged with mud and was inoperable. He felt hopeless, but knew that if he survived to get home, he would be treated as a coward for the rest of his life. He had to think of something. “Got it!” he said to himself.
Slowly, he looked to the bunker, the turret was still manned. He put his plan into action. He quickly grabbed his smoke grenade and threw it to the base of the bunker. Within moments, the entire building was engulfed in smoke. Lucius took this opportunity, and he arose and ran as fast as he could to the base of the two-story bunker. He put his rifle on his back and took out his silenced pistol. He knew what he had to do. With his grey cloak he was almost invisible in the smoke, but his thermal vision allowed him to easily acquire his targets. Close-range combat was not his “forte”, but he could manage. The first man he encountered, he killed easily with two shots. The next was also simple, though this one actually saw Lucius. However, as Lucius made his way to the roof of the bunker, he remembered something.
It was AU protocol, that if ground forces could not succeed in capturing an objective, the AU tactical planes would strafe (assuming AA was down) the objective until the goal was in ruins. Lucius acted quickly. He sprinted up the final flight of stairs in the building and surfaced on the roof. The enemy soldier manning the turret was oblivious and fell with two shots of .45 ACP to the chest. Lucius stopped his frantic pace. From the enemy communication radio the cryptic words “AA is down!” echoed though every fiber of Lucius’s being as he looked to the horizon and saw two AU tactical fighters soaring across the sky towards him.
He fumbled for his flare gun and managed to load a flare. Click! The flare was a blank! Lucius quickly emptied the blank flare shell as he loaded his second and final flare. He looked up to the fighters nearly upon him. He raised the orange flare gun to the sky and fired only moments before the fighters would have demolished the building. The two fighters broke off as Lucius breathed a sigh of relief. As the only remaining soldier, he would be a hero.
