Just like old times 2-1-1
“This is the shores” said General Harrison pointing to a spot on the map at the front of the briefing room. “One of the last main areas on Earth-2 that the APM holds on to, if we can gain control over this area, Earth-2 is ours.” “But, before the main assault we need the major defenses of the Shores crippled.” “That’s were you come in” he said gesturing to the 12 men in front of him. “Colonel Daniel Fletcher has been appointed leader of this task force and will inform you of all of your responsibilities.” Daniel nodded from his chair and walked up the front of the room. “You all will be informed of the specific details of the operation at a later time, right now I would like to just let everyone know some idea of what’s going on.” “You men will be assigned to this task force as long as the shores in under APM control, once we complete our first main mission there will be plenty of other areas in the shore that will need our help.” “Anyway, the way we will operate is in two 6-man teams, I will lead one, and Kurt Fletcher will lead the other.” “Now concerning our first assignment.” Daniel pulled down the projector screen behind him and motioned for the lights to be turned off. A picture of a Harbor popped up on the screen. “This is Recto Harbor, major sea-port of Earth-2, Also home to APM ship-yards and their main land base of the shores.” “We are flying in, in new prototype stealth helicopters, and dropping boats out the helicopters a little ways away from the harbor and use the boats to sail up to the harbor to our objective…. at night.” “Kurt’s team will take the shipyard’s and my team will take the base.” “I will tell everyone more later, but that all I have to say for now, Dismissed.
The men shuffled out of the room going to their various places, getting packed and ready for the mission. As they were walking out Lucius came up to Kurt and Daniel. “Hey guys Just like old times, what a better way to get back on my feet again then a mission like this. Kurt smiled, “Yeah, but Lucius this one…. Isn’t like the other ones, it’s going to be a lot more dangerous, no back-up from the AU, and a when we drop the boats into the ocean from the helicopters a lot can go wrong, especially at night, and the ocean waves are unpredictable. If their rough, when we jump out of the helicopter, it’s not going to be easy. Lucius looked at Kurt and back at Daniel. “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I know, every mission is dangerous, but hey, lets be honest, I’ve about been through it all. I look forward to this challenge. Any thing but that hospital bed.” “Lucius you still need to….. Kurt started to say but Lucius cut him off “Kurt, I’ll be fine it’s not my first mission.” Lucius patted Kurt on the shoulder, nodded to Daniel, and walked away.
Kurt looked at Daniel, and Daniel raised and an eyebrow. “did that seem, so, so un… “So Un-Lucius like” said Kurt completing his thought. “Yes said Daniel. “Oh its probably nothing, just a little anxious after being in bed so long” replied Kurt. “I hope you right,” said Daniel “I hope your right”. {72 hours later, somewhere along the coastline of the shores}
The roar of the helicopter blades dominated the sound In Kurt’s ears, he tried to get some sleep but just couldn’t. He looked around at the 11 other men with him. It was night and they had been in the Helicopter for about 2 hours. In the center of the craft where two small assault boats seating up to 6 people each, small, light-weight, but fast and well armored. The helicopter they where in was a special stealth helicopter. It looked like the old model Chinook back on earth but was a tad bit smaller and a whole lot quieter. It had special amour plating that made it blend in with the clouds around it and gave off special radio-wave frequencies which made it invisible to radar, and on a night like this it was virtually invisible to the naked-eye. Kurt’s thoughts were interrupted by Daniel’s voice yelling across the helicopter. “Listen up” Daniel yelled, trying to be heard over the helicopter. “Were 30 minutes out from our destination. Intel says we got extremely rough waves and there is heavy rain over the base and harbor but were still going through with the mission. Kurt, your team’s boat is going out first, then your team will jump.” Kurt nodded. “My team will follow once Kurt’s men and boat are in the water.” Said Daniel. Lucius’s heart was pumping, he was 30 minutes away from his first mission since his injury, and the prospect of action again was thrilling. He was on a special task force with Kurt and Daniel again. A big smile formed on his face…………………………………… it was just like old times.

Just Like Old Times 2-2-2
The first boat had been dropped and Lucius was suited up and ready to go. He was anxious, and his heart was pumping adrenaline through his veins as he looked into the near pitch black ocean that lay beneath the helicopter and the darkened early-morning sky. He held onto a handle bar in the helicopter as he looked over to see another man kiss a cross he had on a necklace which he quickly stuffed back under his combat vest. Any moment can be your last... both on and off the battle field... Lucius shook the thought from his head. This mission would be fine... he inhaled and exhaled sharply as the frigid spray from the iced ocean misted the helicopter. The seas were rough; Lucius couldn't help but wonder if this mission would be fine. NO! Lucius shouted in his own head. Thoughts like that will get you killed! He struggled to think positively, but maintained a jovial demeanor, slapping one of the other operatives on the back, "You ready? This is gonna be great...cold, but great!" The other operative managed a nervous smile.
Kurt called Lucius and the rest of his team to the hatch on the side of the helicopter, preparing them to jump. "All right," Kurt shouted over the helicopter's engine, "When you jump, swim forward to the boat, it shouldn't be that hard to locate. Once you make contact, get into the boat and aim your flashlight's away from the direction of the harbor, that way those who are in the water will be able to more easily locate the boat and any patrols will not see the light from us. We'll explain more details of the mission once we're all in our boats." Kurt turned away from the group and moved to Daniel. He spoke in a normal tone which translated to a whisper due to the helicopter's roar, "You really think this is a good idea?" Daniel nodded, "We can't turn back now." Kurt returned to his group, "Jump on my mark! Three, two, one, mark!"
The team jumped from the helicopter into the icy and heaving waters. Lucius held his breath, but smiled the whole way down. This is gonna be... his thoughts were interrupted by the freezing waters hitting his suit. Despite the ability of his combat suit to seal out water, swimming in the tempestuous and frigid liquid was like sitting in a tub of ice. He became nervous and began frantically swimming toward the boat. He kept swimming, using all his energy and strength to get to the vessel. Then he paused. The helicopter was turning to leave with the second boat in the water, Lucius had not seen another operative in the water since. Something was wrong, horribly wrong. Lucius thought he should have reached the boat by now; he looked for the flashlights, but could only see Daniel's boat's flashlights which were too far away to swim to.
Lucius began to panic as he bobbed up and down in the unrelenting ocean, doing all he could just to keep his equipment from drowning him. He threw his arms in a treading motion to keep himself from going under, but the glacial waters were slowing down his movement. No one could hear his calls for help from the roar of the ocean. Lucius knew he couldn't last much longer, he began to struggle more and more, but soon he noticed the edges of his vision darkening and his heartbeat slowing down. His body was shutting down from the cold. He took one last breath as he struggle to move his arms, and then he began to sink. The ocean covered his face, and he made a weak grab for the surface as his vision faded to black.
Then, Lucius awoke in the sea again. It was as if someone had revived him, but he was blinded by a bright light in his eyes. Then, Lucius was pulled up from the stormy seas, but not by his own strength, which was now miniscule. He landed on the deck of the small boat that now housed Kurt's squad. Kurt knelt over top of him to check for a pulse. "What did I tell you, Lucius?!" Kurt yelled, "I said to swim forward until you got to the boat! Don't stop! Pay better attention next time!" Lucius realized that he had been next to the boat all along, but the darkness of the morning had prevented him from seeing his salvation, only feet away. Lucius looked around him seeing only two other men on the boat. "Where's everyone else?" Lucius coughed. Kurt sank against the side of the boat, "Gone. They didn't make it." Lucius scolded himself. He had been fortunate that Kurt saw him, but the others were not. Lucius knew he couldn't continue the "invincible" attitude he had been carrying. He had to start being more wise and thinking more tactically if he wanted to have hope of lasting long at all. He saw Daniel's boat approaching and hoped more made it to his....hopefully Daniel himself.

Kurt flinched slightly as a blast of spray hit him in the face. He tried to make out through the darkness who was on the other boat. He could only make out four figures in the other boat. He was greatly frustrated on the inside, making sure that his emotions were not showing to the rest of the men in the boat. As they pulled along side each other, Kurt took the situation in at a glance. One of the commandos, Sargent Peterson, in the other boat spoke what they are were thinking.
"Where are Colonel Fletcher and the other two men?"
Lucius said quickly, "They didn't make it." Peterson protested, "But the Colonel ..." Kurt interrupted, "has no chance just like any other man who is dropped in the middle of the ocean, in the dark, weighed down with gear. We don't have time to worry about it, we need to get to shore before the sun comes up! Let's move out!"
The men began somberly getting to their positions, the quiet roar of the engines blocked out any emotions as the men came closer to the shore line. "It may be just like old times" Lucius thought as he stared across the dark waters, "but if someone like Daniel couldn't make it; he had no chance at all ..."

~A few days before the invasion of The Shores~ Commander was pacing in his office. He was thinking hard. He knew what he needed to do and fast. He was thinking long-term. He knew if he played his cards right he would win. Suddenly the door to his office opened. His lieutenant and another soldier stepped into the room. The soldier saluted. Commander nodded to him and the soldier put down his hand and promptly spoke. "Sir, the ships are ready. We can leave on your command sir." "Is the equipment on board?" "Yes sir. And the troops are ready as well." "Excellent. Begin the boarding. I'll get to my shuttle in 20 minutes. Dismissed." The soldier promptly left. Commander then faced away from his lieutenant and looked out the window. "Did he say anything else?" "Yes sir he did." "Besides his name?" "Yes sir. According to Matthews, the shores is the next target of the AU and there's a secret team being assembled with all your targets together." Commander was smiling under his helmet. "Excellent. I'll destroy them all with one swift stroke and throw them off my trail." "Are you sure they won't find out?" "Believe me when I say that there will be no evidence left when I'm done."
~Present time~ "Here come the helicopters sir!" A soldier yelled from a tower to Commander. Commander looked through his binoculars at the helicopters and then saw men jumping from the helicopters. "No one fire! Let them jump into the sea. We'll take them out when they get closer.'' The AU soldiers got into boats and sped off towards their objective. Suddenly, another one of his soldiers yelled out from another tower. "Sir, there is a man left in the water!" "What?" "There's a man still floating out there separate from the group." Commander didn't think long about it. He turned to his lieutenant. "Get my dreadnought ready." Soon enough, Commander was seeing the man in the water. He realized who it was. "Looks like Christmas came early this year boys." It was Daniel Fletcher. They pulled him into the dreadnought and immediately checked his vital signs. He was still alive. Commander was overjoyed. They immediately went back to base and put Fletcher in a jail cell. Commander turned to his lieutenant. "Make sure he's taken car e of. We need the information he has. I want to talk to him as soon as I can." The lieutenant nodded and Commander sped out of the room and down the hallways of the base. This facility was an absolute secret. There were no blueprints for it. To everyone else in the universe, it didn't exist except for the few men privileged to work in it. Soon enough, he was in a massive room filled with processors, computers, and generators. In the center sat a chair surrounded by different pieces of machinery. Men were moving these machines out of the room and eventually down the halls and into the ships. These ships had been flying by night for the past week shipping out top secret information and machines to an undisclosed location. Commander walked up to one of his colonels. "Is it almost done?" "Yes sir. These will all be gone by this afternoon then we'll set the trap." "Good job. Back to work then." Commander walked off marveling at how perfectly this whole plan was going. Kurt and the rest of the spec ops team wouldn't know what had hit them.

Just like old times 2-5-5
"Mission first, emotions...last". The thought rang again and again in Kurt's head. This thought had always been instilled in his head throughout his special forces training. Daniel was gone, he had to accept it and move on, he was in charge, and if the men saw him distraught, the mission might as well be over.
"Status report" Screamed Kurt, struggling to be heard amidst the heavy rain and wind of the pitch black ocean night. "Fletcher, Kubasko, and Braxton, are gone." Yelled Sergeant Peterson from the other boat.
Kurt quickly evaluated the situation. 9 of the original 12 men were left, one of whom was the spec-ops team leader, the other 2 were the communications specialists from both of the 6 man teams. Kurt realized this meant no communication back with the AU, which meant no UAVs or air support.
"Ok forget the original two teams, were combining into 1! We're going to primary object A. the APM control tower. Peterson follow my boat all the way, were going in quick, fast, and silent. AFFIRMATIVE." "Understood, said Peterson."
Kurt motioned for the boat driver to move out. The low silenced motor of the small, assault craft boat started up and two boats sliced through the ocean waters of the shores on their way to their objective. Kurt adjusted his night vision goggles, the early morning was so dark around him, he couldn't even see his hand in front of his face. He looked around at the men around him, solemn faces, focused, none nervous, these were some of the best soldiers that the AU had to offer, the best of the best, now on the move deep in enemy lines.
--30 minutes later--
The boats ran aground on a snow-covered beach of the Shores. 9 men stealthfully formed on the beach. Kurt allowed himself a small sigh of relief, it hadn't been easy coming this far, the constant patrol boats and guard towers had almost spotted the two moving craft. Kurt shined his light on the map and showed his men were they were. “We are here in the center of APM held Shore territory. This is approximately where the Control Tower is, stealth is the key until we reach the tower, keep the chatter low over the com-link."
The men moved forward to their object stopping 2 times to hide from APM patrols. Then the unexpected happened. The squad was moving down the shores about 10 minutes out from the control tower when they saw a group of solid black armored APM troops seemingly come out of the ground in front of them. Kurt immediately hit the ground, the others followed his lead. “Where did they come from” whispered Peterson over the com-link!" They waited … the men went out of sight. Kurt hand-motioned 2 men to go to the sighting of the entrance. They cautiously walked forward and examined the area.
“There’s an entrance!” “What are your orders?” Kurt thought, they had approximately only 7 hours before the sun started to rise; but this could be something big, why else would there be a secret entrance, but then again it could be a waste of time. The rest of the team waited for his command ... "Breach and secure."
Little did they know what they would find inside

Just Like Old Times 2-2-5
Lucius slung his sniper rifle over his back and pulled his machine pistol. He had little use for the small underpowered weapon, but now, more than ever, was his opportunity to utilize this piece of weaponry. Two of the squad members from Daniel's squad ran up to a small porthole in the ground, just large enough for a man to fit through. Twisting the wheel on the front of the door, the two soldiers heard the door unlatch and looked to Kurt for affirmation. Kurt trudged through the snow and ice, reaching the porthole, where he promptly pointed his weapon at the unopened doorway. With a single nod from Kurt, the two soldiers struggled to pull open the hatch, but eventually with a loud screeching noise, the door gave way and the two squad members lifted it. Nothing.
Kurt peered through his sights down into a black abyss, which was accessed via a ladder at the surface. Kurt called to Lucius quietly, "Signal Flare?" "Got it," Lucius said under cold breath. He ran to the hatch and pulled a cylindrical shape from his combat vest. He readied the flare in his hand, prepared to light it, but he looked to Kurt first. With yet another affirmative nod from Kurt, Lucius charged the flare with a lighting apparatus he held in his other hand, sending sparks everywhere. Another stroke finally lit the flare, and Lucius dropped it quickly down the dark shaft. It took about three seconds for the flare to finally hit the bottom of the corridor. One of the soldiers who walked up behind the group at the porthole looked inside and then said to Kurt, "That's a long way down, sir." Kurt acknowledged the man but only barely as he said, "We will reach the bottom faster if we rappel down, I will go first."
Kurt grabbed some rappelling cord and fastening it around the a hook around the top of the hatch, quickly dropped the cord down the porthole. He readied himself to go down into the hole, only seeing the flare far at the bottom, but he first turned to the squad members around him, "Stay here, tell the rest of the squad to wait until I say it is clear, Lucius you come with me just in case things get hot as soon as I hit the bottom." Lucius nodded as he watched Kurt drop into the dark abyss. A quick tug on the cord told Lucius that he was clear to rappel in after Kurt, which he did rather speedily causing himself to almost hurt something on landing. " Ugh! I seem to have forgotten all I learned in rappelling training." Lucius whispered as he rubbed his knees which stung a little from the hard impact. Kurt raised his weapon and flipped on his tactical flashlight; the two were in a long corridor resembling those found on naval vessels, which seemed deserted. Kurt moved past Lucius and blinked his tactical light twice up the shaft that they had just descended, signaling to the other squad members that all was clear to come down one at a time.
Slowly but surely, all nine men landed safely at the bottom of the shaft. Stacking in a linear fashion, the group shuffled down the hallway, checking each of the quarters, or rooms rather, that lined the corridor. Each room seemed to be a living quarters of some sort; however, each was deserted but well-ordered, as if a group had just packed up and left. Then, as Lucius turned into a room at the end of the hall, he spotted something odd; this room that he had just entered was slightly larger than the others and contained a large desk at the center of it. "Kurt," Lucius whispered, "I think I found something." Kurt entered the room with the remaining squad members outside, remaining tentatively defensive. Lucius picked up something off the desk in the middle of the room and turned to Kurt, "I think this is an office of some sort, if this is a military facility, it may be a 'higher-up's' office. I found this." Lucius handed Kurt a pistol. Kurt grabbed the weapon and held it gingerly; there was something familiar about it. Then, Kurt looked at the serial number on the handgun; it was Daniel's. Kurt turned to his squad and got their attention, though silently. "Listen up!" he whispered intently as he held up the pistol, "This is Colonel Daniel Fletcher's weapon; this gives me reason to believe he did not perish in that cold ocean and that he may in fact be in this facility. Get ready men, a 'missing in action' has just become a search and rescue. I assume, if this is in fact a military facility, we will need to be locating the holding cells. Let's get to it."
A multiplicity of "Yes sirs" resounded from the remaining squad as they readied themselves. The group began moving once again, pressing through the tight corridors of the underground structure now deemed to be a once fully-functional APM base. Though the structure seemed to be deserted, every member remained alert and focused on the objective, find the holding cells and hopefully find Daniel. Lucius was cheering up as the groups pace increased; they might be able to find Daniel after all, he thought. Weaving through the hallways, Lucius wondered how Kurt was able to navigate the maze of corridors so easily. The man seemed to have an excellent sense of direction for sure, as he was leading the group. Approximately ten minutes after the group located Daniel's pistol, they came across a split in the corridors. Kurt turned to Lucius and two other men saying, "You three with me, this may be it. The rest of you, up those stairs. Looks like that may lead to some kind of command room, see what you can find." One man, seemingly taking charge of the rest of the squad, said affirmatively, "Yes sir!" and left with his group trailing behind.
Kurt and Lucius and the other two squad members continued through the maze of hallways, checking their corners the whole way through. Their guard never dropped for a single moment, despite never seeing a single enemy threat. However, as far as they new, they could be in the middle of an APM ambush. Still, their persistence eventually paid off as a member of the other squad said over the comm radio, "Sir, we seem to have discovered a command room with a map of the facility; it is quite extensive. However, there is in fact a few holding cells near your position; sending you the coordinates now." Kurt looked to his personal GPS, a small screen from his pack. "Hmm," he said aloud, "...right around the corner." He placed the screen back into his pack and gestured for Lucius and the others to follow him. When they rounded a corner at the end of their current corridor, they found a room marked: inmate holding cells. "This could be it." Lucius said quietly.
Kurt ordered the two other squad members to prepare to breach the door. The two men pried the heavy metal door open revealing a row of about ten cells inside. Kurt went down the line of cells flashing his light in each one, as the hall was quite dark (as was the whole base). Kurt reached the final cell with Lucius close behind, and spied a man tied to a chair. The man looked up from his relaxed position and said, "Took you long enough..." Kurt was overcome with joy, it was Daniel! One of the other squad members broke the lock on the jail cell and opened it as he was pushed out of the way by an ecstatic Kurt. "I knew you were still alive!" Kurt said trying to keep himself from yelling as he gave his brother a bear hug (after cutting him out of the chair, of course). Kurt clasped his brother's hand as Daniel said, "You didn't think I'd some stormy ocean kill me did you?" They both laughed aloud. Lucius walked up to Daniel, producing his pistol, "Sir, I believe this is yours." "I knew this old thing would find its way back to me." The remaining squad member appeared with an armload of equipment, "Looks like they didn't take your equipment far, kept it in the storage cell." The soldier handed Daniel's rifle, combat vest, and pack to him. Daniel observed the gear and after checking the clips in his pack and weapon said, "Hmm, they didn't even bother to take the ammo. Excellent."

Just Like Old Times 2-2-6
As Daniel started putting his gear back on, he bended his knees slightly to try to get the stiffness out of his legs. Kurt, still overjoyed to find out his brother was actually still alive, tried to contain his excitement and focus on the mission,
"Did you learn anything while you were captured?" Daniel answered as he finished checking to see that his last piece of gear was in place. "Not much, all I remember was that I was pulled out of the water and then I woke up here. They asked me the standard questions, I of course didn't answer and then they left. The whole thing was very peculiar. It almost makes me think that they knew we were coming."
Kurt nodded and then responded, "That means they might have left a surprise for us somewhere in this complex."
Lucius spoke up for the first time, "Excuse me, but I think it is also important to remember what our main objective is, we still have to disable the enemy artillery or the AU attack will be a complete disaster."
Daniel spoke in agreement, "You are right, we need to act fast, let’s see if this com-link still works ... This is Slyfox, my squad report in." The excited radio chatter that followed had to be quickly ended by Daniel, "Ok ok , listen up, I know your glad to hear from me, celebration at my place later, now to the task at hand, we have to get to our primary objective quickly, right now though we are going to investigate this facility, we think that the APM might have left a surprise for us, so be on your toes. Any questions?"
After affirming that there was no further questions from the other squad the men began moving through the remainder of the facility, proceeding with more caution than before. As they went throughout the facility, they all noticed the same thing ... nothing. The entire facility was completely cleared out. After going throughout almost the entire facility, they came to one last final room. After positioning themselves around the entrance Daniel spoke to Kurt, "Use your thermal vision to see if there is anybody in the room." Kurt answered after quickly scanning the room. "No humans, but it looks like there is a large object in the center of the room giving off some heat ... Daniel ... it looks like a bomb!"
At that moment, the other squad spoke over the com-link, "Colonel! We are outside the entrance to the last room in the facility, we have reason to believe that there is a bomb inside!" Daniel answered, "Affirmative, breach a clear on my mark ... 3 ... 2 ... 1... NOW!
Both teams entered the room weapons ready, immediately the men heard the tell-tale click of a claymore, they all dropped to the ground knowing that there was no way they were going to survive the explosion ... they waited ... the explosion never came. Daniel and Kurt looked up to see a screen on the wall. The click was a motioned sensor for the screen to turn on. The rest of the men slowly got up and watched as a video clip came on.
They saw a man dressed in all black sitting on a chair that had formally been in the very room that they were in currently in. The man began speaking "Kurt and Daniel Fletcher, I have been expecting you!" Kurt and Daniel exchanged worried glances "If you look behind you, you will see a large item, which is in fact, a time bomb that will create a very large damage radius, most likely taking you with it, it is set to explode once someone touches it" Kurt instantly stepped away from the bomb as he was about to start trying to diffuse it.
The man in black smiled as if he anticipated this happening. "I have been tracking both your movements, Orin's, and yes of young Lucius as well. If you wondering how I knew you were coming, you can ask Private Matthews, he wasn't very talkative at first; but after a while, he became more talkative."
A pictured flashed up on the screen of Private Matthews. The men quickly looked away, Matthews was dead and he was hardly recognizable with the amount of blood and gore splattered around him. As the screen returned to the man in black he continued speaking. "I was working on a top secret project here until I found out that your team was coming, so I cleared out and have moved to a different location. Hope you enjoy the explosion, oh and Orin says hello." With that, the screen went black.
The men stood there for a few seconds, each lost in their own thoughts, Daniel, Kurt, and Lucius, more so. Until finally Daniel spoke, "Alright that bomb isn't ticking any slower let’s get out of here!" As they quickly exited the room, Kurt glanced at the time on the Bomb.
[5:31]
"We only have 5 minutes left let’s book it!" The men ran out of the underground facility to come across a motor-pool of vehicles guarded by a detachment of APM soldiers. Before the APM soldier saw the commandos and before any of the commandos could react, Daniel and Kurt had already eliminated four enemy soldiers. Lucius immediately dropped to the ground and began sighting in enemy soldiers on the two guard towers. The other men in the squad quickly began to open fire. In a matter of seconds, the entire guard force was wiped out before any of them could fire a single shot.
Daniel spoke into the com-link, "Alright back to the original squad set-up: five per squad, Kurt leading one, and I leading the other. Commandeer a vehicle and let's move!" The two squads quickly found two vehicles resembling a HUMVEE from the old earth technology. Daniel and Kurt got in the driver seats and pulled out of the motor pool and onto the road leading away from the facility and towards their primary objective.
Daniel spoke into the com-link, "How long until the bomb goes off Kurt?" Kurt glanced down at his watch as he driving, [1:33]" "Put the petal to the metal! We need to put some distance between us and that bomb!" Kurt and Daniel began testing the limits of the engine on their armored vehicles. Lucius spoke up, "How fast are we going?" Daniel answered calmly, "You don't want to know." Daniel and Kurt struggled to keep the vehichles from flipping on the iced roads. "Thirty Seconds!" Kurt yelled over the com-link “Pull over behind that large hill and hope for the best" Daniel responded.
Just as the two HUMVEEs pulled behind the snow covered hill, a huge explosion rocked the land scape lighting up the sky and sending debris in all directions. Although they were far enough away to escape the explosion, if the men had not been inside the armored vehicle, they would have been impaled by flying debris. After the explosion, the men could hear the massive amount of APM radio chatter through the HUMVEE's radios.
"They evidently did not know that the explosion was coming” Kurt said in a subdued voice. "What kind of a commander would keep track of us and not care at all about his troops." Lucius muttered "Sounds like someone is obsessed with finding you all" a soldier remarked. “Well, there are a lot of unanswered questions, but we will take care of those once we get back to New Chicago, right now, we have a mission to complete, let's move out, the entirety of AU's success on this planet depends on our actions now.

Just Like Old Times 2-2-7
The all-terrain treads of the HUMVEES kicked up dirt as they sped across the road. Smoke lingered throughout the air, and little pieces of debris littered the roadside within the radius of the explosion. “Peterson, what’s our ETA” asked Kurt. “Ten minutes sir” responded Peterson. For now they were safe, thought Kurt, using stolen APM vehicles they could easily get through the countryside, and with the explosion, all reserve forces were occupied. The only challenge would be getting past the checkpoints that led to their objective, the control tower. Kurt began to speak to his brother in the other HUMVEE, “Daniel, according to intel there are only two checkpoints between here and our objective, one being the main gate outside the control tower.” “Right Kurt, we’ll try to maintain our cover as long as we can. Hopefully we can even gain access inside the control tower without are cover being blown.” Kurt grimaced, “That’s not likely, will be lucky to get past the first checkpoint” “I know, but lest just hope for the best” replied Daniel.
[ two minutes later ]
As the HUMVEES plodded along, they were suddenly met with a surprise, “Kurt look up ahead, we got company.” Said Peterson. Kurt took his eyes off the map in his hand, and looked at the road in front of him. There, lay an APM checkpoint with around twenty soldiers, gate and all. Kurt was in disbelief, there was nothing in Intel or the map about a checkpoint here. “Daniel” Kurt said. “I see it Kurt” replied Daniel. Kurt spoke into the com-link “How do you want to play this”. Daniel looked at the situation in front of them,,,, and smiled. The APM officer looked down the road, he saw two APM combat HUMVEES approaching, after the mysterious explosion, the traffic coming in and out of the checkpoint had increased, and in his mind the two vehicles were no different than the rest. He was fatigued, all day he had been checking identification, and allowing the passage of cars. Why this job was necessary was unbeknownst to him, after all this was the Shores, it wasn’t like the enemy was just going to waltz in and sneak by in a motor vehicle. Oh well, it was his job, he wasn’t asked to like it, just asked to do it, he thought as he walked up to the first HUMVEE. He approached the car and mechanically knocked on the window. After hearing the window roll down, he put out his hand and said “Identification Please”. As he looked up at the Man in the driver seat he realized it wasn’t an APM soldier, the uniform was different and the man had grease paint on his face. He started to say “Imposte…….. but his sentence was never finished. As soon as Daniel rolled down the window his gun had been waiting and fired just as the officer started to yell, killing him instantly. Rapidly the men in the HUMVEES began their lethal and deadly assault. In both vehicles two men popped up in the turrent, sporting 50 caliber machine guns. They began unloading lead into the surprised and shocked APM troops. The others threw grenades out the windows and openings and firing their assault rifles with deadly accuracy into the heart of the APM checkpoint. In two minutes twenty APM troops lay dead, and the assault without an injury raced onward towards their objective. Over the com-link Daniel congratulated his men on a job well done. “Nice work team, great job. This isn’t done yet though keep your heads in the game and stay alert.”
After an uneventful, but bumpy five minutes of driving, the HUMVEES pulled right up to the checkpoint for the control tower, inches away from their objective. Little did the APM know that ten dangerous men were deep in enemy territory.

Just Like Old Times 2-2-8
The group and their two stolen APM vehicles arrived at the final checkpoint, but instead of going through the checkpoint, the squad drove their humvees behind a large snow drift, several stories high. It was now quite dark, so the checkpoint's soldiers had not seen the group's vehicles at all, because they had kept the lights off. The members of the squad got out of the vehicles and slowly made their way up to the top of the snow drift to get a better viewpoint on the APM control tower below. "Goodness..." Peterson exclaimed in a whisper, "The place in nearly a ghost town..." "Don't let that fool you," Kurt jumped in, "Sure, a lot of them probably left after the explosion went off, but there are still a good hundred or so probably resting in the barracks in addition to those that you can see outside. Daniel, you got your thermal binoculars out already, what do you see?"
Daniel reported, "We have two watchtowers just beyond the checkpoint that are directly connected to the main entrance, we'll have to avoid those because of the large number of troops at the checkpoint. There is also this one observation tower on the corner of their perimeter fencing; it has only got one guy in it. Lucius, go ahead and get ready for him. Like I already said, light fencing, wire that is, should be easy to cut through quietly; Evans, you got that taken care of. It is so dark out here, we should be able to sneak right up to the fence; once we're inside, we will have to be little more cautious, but I am not seeing but maybe ten total soldiers patrolling in their inner perimeter. Seems like they have lost a lot of troops reassigned to inspecting the blast site."
"Great," Kurt said, "Remember guys, we're here to get into that control tower. Once inside, we need to deactivate the APM Shores defenses and hope for the best. It may not seem like there are that many soldiers in the base now, but once we flip that switch...let's just say that we are going to attract a LOT more attention than explosion did. We'll have the whole APM Shores force coming to us and they'll be angry. Watch for a dreadnought or two and tanks. It will probably take at least twenty to twenty-five minutes for the first wave of AU forces to come to our aid, or should I say rescue, and even they may not be able to beat back the APM immediately." "He's right," Daniel continued, "Maybe he even underestimated a bit. Just stay sharp and make smart decisions; this is what you're trained to do. Check your mags. Once inside the tower, I want you, Strauss, to start planting a few claymores on the stairs to the top of the control tower. That way, we'll at least have a bit of a buffer for when the APM start coming up those stairs. I wouldn't expect the APM to shoot high explosives at the tower because they still need it intact to reactivate their defenses, but expect a few tons of lead to come our way. Everyone ready?"
With a few quiet "Yes, sirs." from the squad members, Daniel continued, " Once we get inside the fence, I want absolute radio silence until we get to the top of that tower and those defenses go down." Kurt radioed the AU fleet commander just off the Shores, "Commander Erikson, are you and your troops ready?" "Yes, Fletcher." the commander's voice crackled over Kurt's earpiece. "Good," Kurt replied relieved, "Once those defenses are down, I expect your men to haul it to us as fast as you can, there will be just too many APM for us to last any decent amount of time." "Understood," the commander replied, "Just give us the word." Daniel gave the signal to the rest of the group to cut radio chatter as he motioned to Lucius, who had been setting up his rifle the whole time. "Watchtower target...quietly!" Daniel whispered intently. Lucius nodded and finished attaching the suppressor to the end of his VX-98. He sighted in on the man in the watchtower and waited for Daniel's signal. Daniel gave Lucius a pat on the shoulder to let him know it was all-clear. Lucius' trigger pull was swift and smooth; he marked his target in the left temple, dropping him quietly. The only sound was that of the two clicks made by the action on Lucius' rifle.
The group slowly made their way down the side of the snow drift and to the fence; Evans, a younger member of the squad, was quick and quiet about clipping a large whole through the razor wire and mesh fencing. The group made it through the breach and paused behind a large tank of gasoline. Daniel gave the sign to "hold" and motioned for Strauss, a demolitions expert, to plant some remote explosives on the 500 gallon tank of fuel. Lucius could see what Daniel was going to do, or at least was planning to do. After the charges were set, the group made their way behind a parked tank and waited again as a jeep carrying three soldiers parked in the space just on the other side of the tank. Lucius could was so close to the enemy, he could hear what they were saying now, even over the sound of the machinery and generators that were running all over the base. "Man, that explosion lit up the night sky! It was like a second sun, I have never seen anything like that." One soldier said to another. "Well," one of the others said, "Everyone's headed back now, so it looks like the party's over." The three soldiers chuckled to themselves as they headed for their assigned posts. Lucius gave a distressed look to Daniel who acknowledged with a simple nod that they needed to move quickly.
Moments later, the group had crossed a road leading to the base of the control tower, but they were all now prone behind a low wall of sand bags that were covered in ice and snow and rimmed the perimeter of the tower's base. Daniel knew that getting into the tower would be risky, considering each of the ten members would have to stand to get inside the tower's main door at the bottom of the tower, but it was a risk he would have to take. He motioned for Kurt to go first. Kurt nodded and quickly stood and entered the base of tower. No one seemed to notice his entrance. Once inside, Kurt noticed that the tower's interior consisted of a staircase that went all the way to the top control room...and that there were no guards inside. Kurt peeked his head outside the tower's door and motioned for the other nine soldiers to get inside quickly and quietly.
All nine managed to enter undetected. With a sigh of relief, Lucius followed Kurt up the stairs. With each flight though, he felt the tension building. He looked down behind him to see Strauss planting claymores every few flights of stairs. Once at the top, Kurt grabbed the door handle to the control room and motioned for Daniel and Lucius to ready themselves to clear the room. With a swift throw, Kurt pushed the door open and moved out of the way as Lucius and Daniel broke into the room and immediately dropped to a knee. Nine suppressed rounds later, four lab technicians and two guards were dead. Daniel gave the all-clear, and the rest of the group entered the control room with Strauss close behind. Lucius immediately began setting up his bi-pod for his rifle so that he faced the entrance to the base. From this view, he could see the road incoming to the base and the checkpoint below, but if any soldiers got close enough to the base of the tower, his line of sight would not allow him to dispatch them.
Daniel did a quick glance over the control room as Kurt checked the computers for anything useful. There were a mass of switches in the room, but the one to turn off the checkpoint's defenses was a virtual one. Kurt pulled up the mainframe for the defenses on one of the computers and selected the disable network icon. He turned to Daniel and asked quietly, "Is everyone ready?" Daniel said, "Yes, everyone is in position. Go for it." With a resounding click, Kurt sighed as the message appeared on the screen.
"Defenses Disabled"
There was no turning back now.

Just Like Old Times 2-2-9
Immediately an alarm sounded that shook the entire base. Daniel quickly motioned his men to their positions. The control tower was built almost like a lighthouse with one big room on the bottom and one large room on the top with windows all around. Daniel knew that they had limited time, supplies, and that if AU assault slowed if even for a moment, there was no chance of survival. Daniel had positioned three men guarding the top of the stairs and the rest situated around the large room overlooking the base. Daniel had already give orders not to fire until he gave the order. The men watched the APM soldiers begin piling out of the barracks and out into the open wondering what was going on. As a few officers came together, they started talking animatedly and pointing to the control tower. Daniel calmly spoke over the comlink, “Lucius, take out the officers.”
In a matter of seconds, the officers who were standing out in the open fell to the ground dead. The APM soldiers dropped for cover and looked for the enemy; many began to start firing at shadows, none realizing where the shots had come from. Kurt drew Daniel’s attention to the other side of the base, “Daniel! Three men are making their way to the command center.” Daniel motioned for Kurt to follow him, “No one shoots until I give the say so … Lucius if any more officers show their heads take them out! I’ll be back shortly.”
Daniel and Kurt alerted the three men at the top of the stairs to the situation and made their way down to the bottom floor of the control tower. Kurt motioned to the claymores and voiced a warning, “Be careful of the claymores we don’t want them going off when we are anywhere close to them.” Daniel nodded in agreement. Daniel and Kurt sidled up to the single window out looking the ground in front of the entrance to the control tower where they could see the three men coming and a fourth man had joined them. “You take the one on the left, work your way in, on my mark …Now.”
Three out of the four men fell dead, with the fourth wounded in the shoulder. Daniel and Kurt quickly eliminated him before he could cry out. The two men made their way back up the stairs being careful to avoid the broken glass from the window they were shooting out of and making sure to alert the three men overwatching the stairwell that they were coming back up. After arriving back on the top floor, Daniel assessed the situation. The entire base was still in chaos and the soldiers could not get organized because of Lucius’s silent and accurate fire. Daniel knew it was only a matter of time before the soldiers realized that the fire was coming from the control tower.
Suddenly, the radios in the control tower came to life, with soldiers trying to call the tower and receive instructions on what to do. “Kurt, take two men and start answering the radio calls and tell them false information to get them away from the front lines and out of the fight.” Kurt and two other men in his squad sat down and began frantically answering the radio calls. As the situation seemed to be under control, Daniel began to allow a twinge of doubt that they might not have to fight after all. This dream was quickly shattered when one of his squad members spoke up. “Colonel! There is a 12-man squad heading this way, it looks like a heavily armed and trained guard force.” “ Blast!” Daniel exclaimed, “It looks life whenever the alarm sounds they send a special unit to guard the control tower.”
Daniel spoke over the comlink, “we are about to be discovered there is a special team of guards coming to the guard house, hopefully the claymore will eliminate most of them, Kurt oversee the stairwell defense. After the explosion, it will only be a matter of time before they discover us. As soon as the claymores go off, fire at will, but I want short and accurate bursts, we are short on supplies, and we need to hold out till the AU assault gets to our position, all right men, let’s do this.”
As Kurt made his way to the stairwell, he could see the other three men tense as they looked behind to see who was coming. They nodded as they recognized who it was and shifted back into their positions as they waited for the squad to make their way to the command tower.
The explosion from the claymores rang through the ears of the commandoes as they saw the guard squad open the door and enter the base level of the floor. Kurt and the other three men quickly eliminated those of the enemy squad that were not killed by the claymore. Daniel and the men on the upper floor began unleashing a firestorm, which cut down many enemy soldiers before they knew what hit them. At that point, in the action, realization hit the APM troops that the control tower was the source of the gunfire. What little officers that remained began to point the APM garrison in some type of order. The APM soldier began finding whatever cover could be found and returning fire. Fortunately, for the AU commandoes, the control tower was made of solid material and the only thing penetrable by bullets was the windows and exits.
As Daniel picked out his targets, he surveyed the whole battlefield to get a picture of what the APM officers were trying to do. He noticed that several soldiers were being picked to ferry equipment from a building. Daniel spoke into his comlink, “Lucius, they are getting supplies from the armory, pick off the men carry the supplies.” Lucius responded, “Already there sir.” Daniel pulled back away from the window he was crouched by as another piece of broken glass fell from the bullets that were penetrating from the enemy fire.
Daniel heard Kurt speak over the comlink, “Daniel, we have had several squads try to attack but all have failed because they attacks have not been jointed. However, this next attempt looks to be pretty organized; I suggest we use the C4 we planted.” Daniel answered, “Affirmative, use at your discretion.” As Daniel watched the column of soldiers approach, he noticed that they were oblivious to the packets of C4 attached to the large gasoline tanks they were using for cover to approach the command tower. Abruptly, the air erupted into flames as the explosives were detonated. Daniel shaded his eyes as he heard the screams of the burning men and saw the snow instantly melt into a flood of water that doused the majority of the flame and kept if from spreading.
Daniel was interrupted by Lucius over the comlink, “Colonel! I was able to stop the soldiers from getting supplies from the armory but evidently, they really need whatever it is inside of there so the entire platoon of men ran into the building. Daniel surveyed the battlefield and saw that the majority of soldiers who were outside were now mostly in the buildings surrounding the tower. Daniel’s heart sank as he realized the APM’s next move. “They are commiting rocket launchers to the fight every pull back from the windows now! Lucius take out any rocket launchers you see! MOVE MOVE MOVE!”
As the men made their way to the center of the room the entire building was rocked with several explosions. Daniel and the others dove to the ground and covered their heads as the glass from all the windows shattered from the explosions that followed. Lucius yelled over the explosions, “There are too many launchers! There is almost a rocket launcher for every single soldier out there!” Daniel muttered to himself, we got to get out of here. “Alright we are leaving this building this position is compromised.” “Ya think” Kurt yelled over the comlink. Daniel continued, “Everyone make their way to the base level! Kurt you take the three men with you and make sure that level is secure before we get done there!” As the men turned to leave the upper building, a one of the rockets hit the inside of the roof causing part of the ceiling to collapse on one of the men in Daniel’s squad. Daniel yelled to the rest of the men, “You keep going Lucius and I will take care of him!”
The commandoes nodded and made their way down the stairs to where Kurt was securing the base floor. Daniel saw that it was Evans, “Hold on there don’t move we’ll get you out.” “I don’t think I could move even if I could try” Evans grimaced. Daniel and Lucius made their way to either side of the piece of ceiling and started lifting. Suddenly another rocket shook the room and more of the ceiling came down. Lucius and Daniel tried again for a second time and this time were successful and pulled Evans from under the debris. “Can you walk?” Lucius asked. “If you can get me on my feet I can walk,” Evans quipped. Daniel handed him his gun and they quickly made their way down the stairs where the rest of the men were waiting.

Daniel looked around at the men around him to make sure everyone was accounted for before glancing out the doorway to see if their movement from the top story had been observed. One of the men crouched next to him flinched as the building shook again from another bombardment of rockets. "They haven't noticed that we've moved." Daniel looked up to see it was Lucius who had spoken up. Daniel had noticed that something had happened to Lucius since the time of the drop into the shores. Something had changed him, made him more mature, not the young sniper that Daniel had first known, Lucius was now a veteran soldier.
Daniel nodded and spoke quickly to the men, "Kurt and I are going to launch two smoke grenades to cover our evacuation from this building. As soon as your see the smoke billowing make your way through the smoke to behind where the propane tanks detonated we are going to try to make out of this facility alive. Understood?" The men nodded in agreement. "On my Mark! ...Now!"
Daniel and Kurt both fired their grenade launchers and watched the grenades detonate into a cloud of smoke. The men sprinted through the smoke and to the other side of the detonated propane tanks before the APM soldiers realized that the commandos had evacuated the building. Daniel stopped shortly to get his bearing and to make sure that everyone was accounted for and motioned for all the men to follow him.
They quickly made there way next to a large building when what remained of the APM officers alerted the rest of the APM garrison to the retreating commandos. Daniel and the rest of his men dove to the ground as a swarm of bullets started barraging their position. Daniel heard a grunt and look to see one of the men in his squad fall to the ground. He rolled over next to him and checked for vital signs ... it was too late he was dead from a bullet to the back of the neck. Daniel grabbed the commandos dog-tags and began returning fire against the APM onslaught.
As Daniel, Kurt, Lucius, and the four other men left in the squad returned fire the casualties were mounting on both sides. Suddenly, Lucius Yelled out, "Enemy Chopper Inbound!" Kurt Yelled, we need to make it into the building now! We are sitting ducks out here! Daniel use another smoke grenade!" Daniel nodded and loaded another smoke grenade into his launcher. As he fired his launcher the grenade jammed wasting precious seconds. As he reloaded and fired again the Daniel could see the chopper coming into range. The smoke exploded covering their retreat into the building, and not a second too soon. However, the chopper still fired blindly into the smoke killing another of Daniel's squad.
The five remaining men made their way into the building were they were immediately met face to face with a group of the APM garrison. Daniel without hesitation threw his knife into the neck of the nearest man and dove onto one of the soldiers and eliminated him with a blow the face with the butt of his gun. Kurt had simultaneously used his knife on two enemy soldiers. As both looked up they saw that Lucius had eliminated the remaining soldiers with his silenced pistol. Lucius nodded and the five remaining men made their way into the building

Just Like Old Times 2-2-11
"Where's our support, commander?!" Daniel yelled over the radio, bullets whizzing through the barracks' windows and just past his face. His lack of respect for the commander in the heat of battle was reasonable; he dove down just under a window and peered over. Several tracers slammed into the steel on the outside of the building just below the window and he pulled himself back down and covered his head. A voice crackled over the com-link, "On its way, Fletcher. ETA 2 minutes." It would be the longest two minutes of his life, and if he didn't get back to the situation at hand, it would be his last. Kurt yelled, "Last mag!" Daniel, produced a magazine from a supply pack, and tossed it to him without even saying anything.
Lucius was starting to feel the pressure of the battle weigh down on him. He was no longer in the best situation for his sniping prowess; the remnants of the squad were in a one story, ground level barracks that was now under some of the heaviest fire that Alar has ever faced. They could barely get their heads up to return fire, as a constant stream of lead poured in through every window. Yet, the biggest problem they now faced in this new building was that they no longer held the control tower hostage, so heavy weapons could now be used against them, tanks, even airstrikes if the APM had them.
Just then Kurt, who had been checking a flesh-wound on his shoulder, thought of a way to stall the APM for the the remaining minute and a half the group had left. "Everyone!" Kurt yelled. All the members of the squad looked at him, since they couldn't do anything else; they couldn't even shoot back, as they were all mostly out of ammo. "Everyone brought along smoke grenades right?" Most nodded, and those who didn't were quickly given one by Kurt from the supply pack, which now only had medical supplies in it. "On my mark, everyone give those grenades a nice toss out their window! 3...2...1 Mark!" Kurt screamed over the sound of gunfire.
All of the squad members pulled the pins on the smoke grenades and threw them out the windows, filling the area surrounding the building with smoke. The gunfire slowly died out, and Lucius as well as everyone in the squad could here APM soldiers calling out tactics to each other. One of the phrases Lucius tuned into was "Cannon 3-1, switch to thermal view...use...armor-piercing shells." Lucius flipped his thermal goggles down and picked up a heat signature of what looked like the outline of a tank, aiming at the side of the barracks that Kurt was taking cover on. Right then, Lucius heard Strauss yell, "Tank! It's got thermal!" Lucius cringed at those words, so similar to those he had heard before his incident in the desert. "Not again..." Lucius said through gritted teeth; he had no time to loose. He dove over to Kurt and grabbed the soldier by the vest. "What are you doing?!" Kurt yelled, as Lucius turned and quickly dragged him across the floor to the other side of the barracks, just as the report of the tank's cannon sounded. Lucius fell down, everything went black for a moment. Ears ringing, he rolled over to see Kurt groping for his helmet, which had fallen off in the blast; he was alive. Lucius propped himself up on the side of the inner barracks wall opposite of the huge whole that the tank's shell had made. Through blurred vision, he could see Strauss stumbling around, in shell-shock. He yelled, "Strauss, get down!" The soldier looked at Lucius funny; he couldn't hear anything, only a constant ringing. Lucius repeated, "GET DOWN!" Strauss looked like he understood this time, but it was too late. A burst of gunfire found its place in Strauss' back, sending the soldier to die on the barracks' floor.
But then, over the radio, Colonel Erikson's voice appeared, "We've got birds ten seconds out. You boys in cover?" "Yes Sir! In the surrounded barracks. Drop everything you have around that!" Daniel yelled. Just then precision smart bombs flew out of the sky. The first slammed into the tank, the second into a group of machine gun jeeps. After that, helicopters flew in, firing missiles and dropping troops. The 30mm Gatling rounds from strafing planes finished off the rest of the APM troops, who were now scattering into the frozen wasteland around the HQ. The Shores were won; Lucius stumbled out of the barracks, surprised to see no APM soldiers, only craters and bodies. Daniel walked up next to Lucius and put a hand on his shoulder as he looked at he carnage; "The price of victory..." Daniel said, and then made his way to the evacuation chopper.

Just Like old times 2-2-12
Exhaustion....it was the only thought on Kurt's mind. He was completely and utterly exhausted. He was oblivious to all going on around him. All he heard was the thunder of the helicopter's motor's cycling back and forth. Four men......just four men out of the original 12 were all that were left. Kurt told himself going into the mission they would be lucky if 1 of them survived but still they lost eight good soldiers. Kurt shifted his focus to the 3 men around him. Lucius was inspecting his rifle, Daniel was fidgeting with some dog tags.....After some thought Kurt remembered Daniel grabbing them quickly from one of their fallen comrades bodies. Kurt then turned his gaze to Peterson, who was fast asleep. Kurt knew Daniel was replaying the combat sequences over and over in his mind thinking on how he could done things differently and how he could done more to save his soldiers life's. There is nothing he could of done different thought Kurt. He commanded his troops to the best of his ability and has nothing to be ashamed of. Kurt looked out of the helicopter's window and looked out at bay of the Shores. Smoke filled the sky and mixed with the morning sunset to paint a crimson sky. Small fires dotted the coastline and wreckage of buildings formed the definite signs of a war zone. As the transport helicopter quickly flew away from the shores Kurt couldn't help but think of the 8 brave souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the battle for the Shores.................
(several hours later)
Kurt hopped out of the transport helicopter with equipment bag in one hand and assault rifle in the other. He walked over to the cockpit and gave a word of thanks to the pilots and headed of the runway over to the debriefing room.
4 men walked into the dimly lit room and each giving a brief salute to General Harrison who stood at the front of the room. They sat down, leaving 8 empty seats, and awaited General Harrison.
General Harrison: Colonel Fletcher, the details of the mission.
Daniel went into detail to explain the operation, telling of their finds and the losses of the men and the finding of the secret facilities and of the information gathered.
When he finished..General Harrison said
General Harrison: I'm sorry to hear of the losses of your men, they will be hard to replace.....but despite the loss of these brave men today, they paved a way for the main assault force, which in turn will save thousands of our troops. Not only that, but the information that you have gathered is invaluable and will help the cause tremendously. The AU in indebted to you and your men. And now i wish i could tell you go and get some sleep but know in 24 hours you need to be suited up to go....You are headed to reinforce our troops are loosing the battle sorely and could use your leadership. Any questions?
Daniel: Just one thing sir
General Harrison: Yes. what is it
Daniel: Just ensure that those 8 men get military funerals with full honors
General Harrison nodded and said. "I will be sure to"
Kurt: They are the real heroes, and it's those heroes that keep us in this fight.
Peterson and Lucius nodded in agreement, and with salutes to General Harrison and shaking of hands the 4 men walked out of the briefing room ready for the oncoming battle of Raynor.
