“He’s a good man he will be fine,” Daniel said after General Harrison had taken Daniel and Kurt to the infirmary where Lucius had been resting after his injury. “Do you want me to tell him you both are here?” the General asked. “No” Kurt responded “He will find out we are here soon enough.” “We would like to know why you called us here,” Daniel said with a smile remembering what had happened the last time Kurt and himself were called to New Chicago to meet General Harrison. “Your right, we have much to discuss, come with me to my office,” The General affirmed.
-a few minutes later-
“Have a seat gentlemen,” General Harrison said as the three men walked into his office. “We don’t have much time so I am going to cut to the chase. As you know your successes in Apothos and the victory we just attained have sent the APM reeling. However, they are just going to get right back up and gain all of their lost ground unless we deliver a knockout punch that will put us in a solid position.” “And what exactly is this devastating blow?” Kurt interjected. General Harrison continued, “That is where you two come in, we are going to take this planet over completely once and for all." Daniel and Kurt exchanged glances "You two are going to lead another special operations group to the shores!”

Another Assignment 2-1-2
Lucius lay in the hospital bed staring at the ceiling. For the past week...no maybe two...well, he had lost track of time. For the past few days, Lucius had been feeling helpless. He knew that wound was basically healed; it didn't hurt anymore, there was only minor scaring, and he could walk just fine. However, the doctors had told him to stay in the infirmary and rest, just to humor them, until he was fully healed. Lucius didn't understand what “fully healed” meant; he felt the same now as he always had, except a little less exhausted. He had been bed-ridden for so long he was starting to feel lethargic. Lucius stared at the ceiling of his hospital room and listened to the familiar sounds around him.
He heard the sound of a wheelchair being wheeled down the hallway outside, the sound of his pulse monitor, and then there was the sound of occasional conversation between doctors in the hall. Lucius had grown accustomed to his environment here, but it just was not the same as being on the move. The soldier realized that he missed the thrill of the war. The feeling was odd; he hated being shot at and shooting at others. However, the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he actually liked the war. Not only did it give him something to do, but it gave him something to live for, something to have hope in.
This time in this hospital had shown him that while rest was nice, it was not something worth living for. He could not imagine simply taking time for himself for the rest of his life. He could barely stand it for the few weeks he had to heal in the infirmary. Since the desert campaign, Lucius had been transported with the many other wounded AU soldiers to the main medical facility in New Chicago. The trips had been long, but Lucius found that after he had arrived in New Chicago, he was strangely relieved, probably to see something familiar and to be out of the scorching desert heat. However, now that he was healed, he felt as if he was simply waiting around for someone to give him something to do. The only things keeping him in bed was a massive cast on his leg and pain medication, which also limited a patient's muscular reaction to keep them from injury their numbed wounds further (because they couldn't feel any pain).
Lucius was quite bored with this life right now, and he often wondered where Daniel, Orin, Kurt, and the others had gone. Wherever they were, Lucius couldn't be sure if they were even alive or dead. Just as Lucius thought this, a hospital intern walked in leaving the door open, “Alar, you have a visitor.” Lucius looked peculiarly at the staff member and said slowly, “I wasn't expecting any visitors...who is it?” “Well,” the intern flipped through a chart, “...uh, last name: Smith?” Lucius saw a man wearing a business suit enter the doorway into the room. Lucius didn't recognize the man, but the man's stern and emotionless expression told all. You've gotta be kidding me... Lucius thought.
The man closed and barred the door behind him. The hospital intern, still in the room, piped up, “Um, excuse me, what do you think you're...” The visitor silenced the intern with a suppressed pistol. The employee stumbled back and slumped against the wall knocking down a serving table on his way down; the pool of blood underneath him confirmed his death. Lucius jumped up from his bed and half-fell, half-walked to the furthest corner of the room. This is bad, really bad, he thought looking at his leg. He struggled to stand due to the pain medication and his relaxed muscles. Lucius gulped and coughed, “Smith...that's the best you came up with?”
The assassin turned to Lucius and lowered his pistol. He bent and picked up the spent shell casing form his previous shot on the ground and tucked it in his jacket. He took off his sunglasses and put those in his jacket as well. The man looked like he was a business man. He spoke, “Mr. Alar, I have been chasing you for quite sometime. I barely missed you on the field; you're bi-pod on you rifle was made quite well, in fact it saved your life. Then, I deduced that you would die after I directed that tank to fire on you...but you didn't. So, I let you go. But now, I am here to finish the job.” The man chambered a round in his pistol, but ejected the clip. “I think I'll only need one...” He smiled and raised the gun directly at Lucius' head. Lucius thought, So, is this how it ends?

Another Assignment 2-1-3
Daniel and Kurt walked down the hallway of the infirmary. Kurt remarked as they walked, “Do you think now is the right time to tell Lucius about our mission.” Daniel replied, “Of course! Don’t you remember that one time when you were wounded in the Persian Gulf and you were bedridden until you were “fully healed.” Kurt responded with a hint of a smile, “I nearly killed someone because of the boredom; I just wanted to get out of that hospital.” “This is exactly why we are telling him now, it will tide him over until the doctors let him g-.” Kurt interrupted Daniel, “Who is that man that is walking into Lucius’s room?” “I don’t know but we are going to find out,” Daniel answered.
The two men quickened their pace slightly as they walked to Lucius’s door that was now closed. Kurt went to turn the door handle on the door, but hesitated. He shook his head, he must just be imagining things, but then he looked at Daniel. He too had a strange look on his face. Without a second thought, Kurt swung the door open and took the entire scene in a glance: one man dead on the ground, one man with a gun, Lucius about to die.
Immediately Daniel dived into the assassin knocking him to the ground and throwing his shot wide. The two quickly rolled to their feet, the assailant started pointing his gun at Lucius again; however, Kurt stepped in and grabbed the man’s wrist, and judo threw him into the wall. The force of the throw would have broken an ordinary man’s wrist and made him drop the gun, but Kurt and Daniel both realized that this was no ordinary man. It was a hunter!
Daniel and Kurt both simultaneously pulled out their pistols and started unleashing bullets into the hunter. Before ten seconds were up the two men had each already emptied a full clip into the assassin. By this time, the hunter had dropped his gun and was a bloodstained mess on the ground. He had attempted to charge Lucius but with several shots to vital areas from Daniel and Kurt’s quick but accurate fire, he fell to the ground. Daniel and Kurt slightly lowered their weapons as they watched to see if they hunter was still alive.
Lucius, who had been the in the corner watching this whole course of events, voiced what they all had been thinking in a dry hoarse voice, “He can’t still be alive … can he?” Suddenly the window smashed in as a man came swinging through with a grappling hook attached to the roof. As he landed in to the room, he threw a knife straight at Daniel. Any time Daniel was asked about this event afterwards, he still never knew how he did it; however, right as the knife flew toward him he sidestepped it and caught it. The action surprised even the new attacker and he hesitated slightly. This was all Kurt needed. Before the man could fire, Kurt had already kicked the gun out of the man’s hand and swiped the man’s feet out from under him.
Suddenly Lucius yelled out, “The other assassin he is using adrenaline!” Daniel and Kurt both looked and saw that the other man’s bloodstained hands were slowing moving with an adrenaline shot and was about to inject it. Before they could react, the new attacker had jumped back up and was making a move for his gun. By this time, Lucius had regained his composure, dove for his bed, and hit the emergency call button. At the same time, Kurt fired two quick rounds shattering the adrenaline booster in the hunter’s hands, rendering it useless, and two rounds in the man’s eyes. The man died instantaneously. Daniel shot the last attacker’s gun as he made a move for it. As it clattered across the room, two armed guards came in with a doctor. After seeing the situation, the doctor quickly ran out of the room to alert the rest of the infirmary. The two soldiers began unleashing their full firepower into the last hunter.
Eight minutes after it had started, it was all over. Lucius surveyed the room, a complete mess he thought. “Who were those two people?” It had occurred to him that he wasn’t even nervous that two men had just tried to come in and kill him. This would not have been the case before he had met Kurt and Daniel.” “Your welcome.” Kurt quipped with a smirk. Lucius nodded with a smile, “Thanks, sorry I almost forget that you two saved my life.” Daniel sat down on the hospital bed with a sigh, “Those were skullhunters, assassins, trained to kill one person. The first one was for you, the second was for me. For some reason, someone wants us dead really bad.
Lucuis remarked, “I guess Kurt wasn’t as important as I was.” Kurt rolled his eyes in response before walking over to the guards. “What in the world was the security of this building doing! Your job is to protect every wounded soldier here! If we had not been here, a brave soldier would have been killed! You are responsible for every person that enters this facility! If this ever happens again, I will be the one shooting you! Do you both understand!” The two soldiers nodded grimly and replied, “Yes Sir, sorry Sir!” Daniel motioned for the men to leave, “Report to your commanding officer and give him the details of what happened here, tell him I will talk to him in the morning. Also get someone in here to take care of this mess … Dismissed!”
The two soldiers left hurriedly. Daniel turned to where Lucius was standing, “Well this wasn’t the real reason we came to see you; and since we need to find you a new room anyways.” Daniel glanced back around the room before continuing, “Come with us and we will explain to you the details.” As the three men walked out of the room, Lucius thought to himself, I wanted some action, but I guess I should careful for what I wish for.

Another Assignment 2-1-4
Lucius turned to look at his assailant just before leaving the hospital room. “Attacking a wounded soldier...” Lucius muttered just before spitting on the skull hunter's body. “What a disgrace...” Lucius said shaking his head and following Daniel and Kurt out of the room. Lucius spotted the guards that were supposed to be defending him, “Hey! You two!.” The two guards were obviously startled and turned to Lucius and one said, “Us, sir?” “Yes, you! The lazy guards! While you're on your way to your commanding officer, grab my belongings from storage and meet me in the lobby, and for goodness sake, get me some pants!!” Lucius yelled gesturing to the hospital robe he was wearing. “Chop, chop!” Lucius snapped sending the two guards scurrying off. Daniel began talking to Lucius as the the three of them headed for the ground floor of the hospital, “So, the reason I wanted to talk to you is to tell you...” “About the mission to the Shores?” Lucius interrupted. “Well, yes...I assume you received some word already?” Daniel answered a bit surprised. “Yes, I know the general idea. We get together a small spec ops group and flank the APM's defensive line along the western side of the Shores. I assume our goal isn't to destroy their defensive line, just disable it long enough to get a decent counter-attack.”
“You are right on most of it...” Daniel continued with Kurt remaining silent the whole while. “Let me give you some more details. You've go the gist of it. But, one of the main reasons we're disabling the APM defensive is to relieve the shelling of F.O.B. (Forward Operational Base) Beta. The area around them has been shelled so badly that they have been out of radio contact for a while. Command in the Shores is unsure if anyone in the area is still alive. Second, we will be able to counter-attack. We will have ships scattered in the sea just off the coast. The APM artillery will be unable to shell the ships because they stay on the move.”
“The tricky part is yet to come.” Kurt explained, letting Daniel take a break from the briefing. “There's always a tricky part.” Lucius muttered. Kurt continued, “The defensive line shields the APM main HQ, which is a massive compound of defensive structures. Our team will have to be small and we will have to make it through about 25 miles or so of APM defenses threading our way between the rear of the APM defensive line and the static defensive structures surrounding the APM Shores HQ, preferably undetected. I'm not just talking about a few bunkers here or there; I mean mine fields, patrols twenty-four seven, auto-turret towers, helicopter patrols, and military coverage which leaves no square inch of ice in that forsaken place unwatched. In addition, there's nothing to hide behind. It is just an icy cold, barren plain of frost.”
The group entered the lobby of the hospital. “Well, that's disappointing.” Lucius said grabbing his clothes from the two guards who quickly left to go to their commanding officer. “Excuse me one moment,” Lucius said as he went to a nearby restroom in the lobby. After a short minute, he returned in his normal military garb and sat at a table with Kurt and Daniel and said, “Anything else I should know?” “Yes, two things,” Daniel said, “First, I think it is obvious that those skull hunters were sent specifically for us; I think one is headed for Kurt too, so we'll need to be on the look out at all times. That assassin stood up to the two of us and we were lucky we caught him by surprise. All I'm saying is we need to keep on our toes. Second, I have not heard or seen Orin anywhere. I checked his room for the past couple days but he's been gone.” “Hope the hunters didn't get to him...” Lucius said, thinking what it would be like to lose another friend. “I'm sure he's fine,” Kurt said, “He can handle himself.” “Whatever the case,” Daniel said, “We need to get back to the HQ to get ready for this next mission. 'The sooner the better' was the idea I got from General Harrison.” Lucius stood from his seat and sighed, “We'll I was asking for it, let's get to it.” The three left the hospital and headed for the HQ, and their next mission.
