Rules of Engagement 1-3-1
Brandon walked up to the front of the transport and told Larry that it was time to go. The ship began to lift, then the main thrusters came to life, and the ship was off into the sky. The clouds streaked past, light orange and yellow in the sunrise. Brandon suddenly remembered that he should be briefing his team.
"Alright, everyone. Welcome to Viper 1, the most advanced squad in the AU. We're glad to have you aboard. Today our objective is a simple one: ruin the APM's advantage."
Brandon stood for a second as some of the men laughed at the thought of an even battle between the AU and the APM.
"Our objective is to capture and interrogate a certain VIP for certain information about the dreadnoughts. Then we steal 2 dreadnoughts and blow the place skyward. We will have a three-pronged attack. The first prong of the attack will come from our friend Lucius. He will provide sniper cover from a building close to our target. Now the other two prongs will be ground forces. I will take a force of myself, Larry, and our radioman to rig the dreadnoughts for detonation and 2 of them for departure. Daniel, Kurt, and our other smuggler will find the VIP. Once you guys find him, call me on our portable radios. I want to speak to him personally. Any questions?"
Daniel turned to him, an inquisitive look in his eye.
"Rules of engagement? Silent or loud."
Brandon looked at him.
"Excellent question. All enemies need to be eliminated as we go. Take them out as silent as you can. Knifes and these will work well."
As he said this, he took out a box and pulled out silencers. Kurk smiled when he saw them.
"Excellent."
They all took a silencer for each gun. Brandon took 3 silencers. One for his P-97 and two for his handguns. He walked to the back of the craft and opened another box.
"Arm yourselves."
Brandon tossed a combat knife to each member of the crew. He took 5 for himself. Kurt looked at him quizzically, and asked him a question.
"Hey why are you taking so many?"
Brandon looked at him for a minute, then sighed.
"A year ago, my friend and I were ambushed by a hunter in a jungle. He got me with a knife, and was trying to kill my friend. I was able to take the knife and throw it at him, hitting him and giving my friend a chance to kill him. Ever since then I've carried these knives for close combat and throwing."
"What happened to your friend?"
"He's alive and well," Larry's voice rang from the chair in the cockpit.
Brandon turned back to everyone and reminded them of something he had just remembered.
"Everyone, I want to tell you no grenades on this mission. Our objective is stealth. Remember to keep yourself in the radio frequency to hear what's happening. Here we go. Lucius, ready to go?"
Lucius turned to Brandon, a wide grin on his face.
"Oh, I'm ready."
The door in the back began to open. They saw destroyed buildings and cities. Brandon looked at it and said one thing.
"Boy, it looks like hell came and left."
Lucius jumped out of the transport and turned to look at Brandon with a wide smile.
"Looks like we're bringing the hell back."
Then Lucius turned and headed across the landscape and out of site.

Rules of Engagement 1-3-2
(Lucius Alar)
Lucius stepped off of the transport, grabbed his supply bag (full of extra ammo), and watched as the airship flew off into the distance. He knew that he had a long journey ahead of him, and that the others wouldn’t be able to start their mission without his being in position. So he walked…again.
For the second time in less than forty-eight hours he found himself walking in the wilderness alone, only this time enemies would be watching for him. Still, he felt more at home amidst the broken down buildings of Mechopolis. The city had been barraged many years ago by APM’s interplanetary artillery (like cruise missiles fired from planet to planet.) This had happened before AU had any semblance of a missile defense system, and the city was caught completely off guard. Millions of people were incinerated in the blasts that occurred within the city. Now, the only thing left were craters a half-mile in diameter and grayish blown-out, derelict skyscrapers that could collapse at any minute.
There was a deathly cold silence that hung in the air. Lucius had by now gotten close enough to his sniping position that he could here the sounds of APM forces in the distance. The noises were faint, but still existent. He now crouched and looked through the scope on his new VX-98. He could see no guards in the distance, and he was sure that they could not see him. Today, Lucius had a grey cloak that was draped over him. When prone on the ground, he would blend in with the overwhelming tones of grey in the abandoned metropolis. Indeed, there was seemingly no other color in the entire city other than grey. There was no grass, no trees, and no colorful signs. Anything that had managed to retain any color through the blasts was covered in ash (for an enormous cloud of ash hung over the entire city, so even the clouds were grey.)
Lucius felt mixed feelings. He had received only two hours of sleep in the past two days, and his muscles were sore; but, he felt so comfortable in this dismal place that he felt almost no pain or exhaustion. The matter of training that he had could not account for the endurance that was in him now…no, this persistence was from becoming a battle hardened warrior over night. In his last battle he had seen death both from afar and up close through the lens of his scope, and he was now a soldier. Before the last battle, he had only been a reserve, one of no true experience. But now he had “real-world” expertise. He was now truly ready for battle.
He checked the bolt of his rifle to make sure it was actually loaded, which it was, then he proceeded stealthily to the inside of a destroyed building. It had been an office building, a place of peaceful work and productivity, but now it was overcome with ash. Lucius slung his VX-98 over his back and pulled out his pistol. He cleared each floor of the building without enemy contact and proceeded to the roof of the building. Surprisingly, the shop had almost ten stories, and Lucius found himself with a surprisingly easy path to his objective.
Now, he could take the roof of each adjacent building and travel down the stairs to street level, from there, about 500 yards, there was a fire escape ladder that had remained somewhat intact. He would climb the fire escape ladder into the tenth floor of a skyscraper adjacent to the small Dreadnought hangar. Then he would climb flights of stairs to the twenty-second floor of the building and provide over-watch for the rest of Viper-1. In fact, the position he was too take was so high up that he would be looking down on the warehouse through the ceiling of the building which had row after row of large glass skylight windows. Then he would be able to provide cover for any Viper-1 operatives both inside and outside of the warehouse.
He knew that he didn’t have much time. Though the area was lightly guarded, there were still some APM helicopters that patrolled the area, and they would be able to see him from the roof. As he jumped from roof to roof, Lucius neared the end of the series of buildings. But just then, as if some weird twist of fate had caused it to occur, an APM chopper appeared through the ash clouds. It was one of the patrols. Lucius quickly threw himself on the ground hoping that his cloak would camouflage him. The chopper hovered in the air for a few seconds and then departed. Lucius breathed a sigh of relief as he realized that he did indeed blend in perfectly with the ash covered roof. He would be no good to Viper-1 dead.
When he reached the roof of the building that he had planned to descend down, he paused. He now heard the distinct and clear sounds of APM vehicles. Lucius hoped that none of them were any kind of heavily-armored vehicles; however, the most he could hope for at this point was that none of the APM patrol choppers would show and that those vehicles were just unarmed jeeps. He descended flights of stairs in the building until he reached the second floor. He moved quickly and quietly down a hallway of the building, making sure to watch for any traps. Just before the stairs was a claymore which Lucius thankfully noticed and avoided by climbing through a hole in the wall of the stairwell. As he reached the ground floor, Lucius ducked behind an overturned table to avoid detection. He peered over the desk as he watched a jeep and a few APM soldiers on the street pass by.
When “the coast was clear,” Lucius sprinted across the street and into a shop. He checked around it, and then left the building onto an intersecting street. Lucius followed the walls of the buildings closely until he got the alleyway where the fire escape was located. He grimaced as he saw the ladder. It was rusty and in pieces, but it still clung to the walls. He would have to very careful of how he climbed it. He moved around dumpsters and trash bags, finally reaching the ladder. He grasped the sides of the ladder with both hands and began his climb; however, about 10 feet up, one of the rungs on the ladder gave way. Lucius lost his balance for a moment, but failed to regain it as he tumbled to the ground. The alley acted like a concert hall as the sound of the metal rung clanged against the pavement. APM soldiers, now alerted, scrambled to the alley. They peered into the ash covered side path, but they found only ash-covered dumpsters and trash bags.
APM private: “What was that?”
APM private 2: “It was probably nothing. You know just as well as me that this city is falling apart every day. A brick probably fell and hit that ladder there.”
APM private: “You’re probably right…”
APM private 2: “Let’s get going, we got break in thirty.”
As the soldiers left, one of those trash bags stood up. It was Lucius. The ash had formed a thick blanket over the bags that allowed Lucius, in his gray cloak, to blend in. He then attempted a second try at the ladder. This time, he was successful. He reached the tenth floor of the building and proceeded to find some stairs. Even though the flights of stairs in the building were incomplete, he was able to alternate between two stairwells before finally reaching the targeted floor.
He found a wide open space where some office cubicles had previously sat. The enormous roof was about as long as a basketball court with a long row of blown-out windows stretching across one side of it. Lucius found a table and unpacked his supplies. He sighted in his rifle though the shots wouldn’t be exceptionally long, and he set up some claymores on the only entrance leading into the room. Lucius looked out of the windows where he saw that the factory was at the edge of the city’s center. Behind the factory were a mass of residential neighborhoods that were decimated. This area was perfect for the low-flying dreadnoughts. The airships could be deployed from and then land here without having to dodge around the skyscrapers one Lucius’ side of the warehouse. Lucius found a dusty office chair and sat down. All he could do now was wait.

Brandon led the men through the alleyways. Around them was nothing but rats and rubble. No enemy soldiers were anywhere. It was easy making it to the outskirts of the plant.
Finally, they rounded a corner, and there it was- the Dreadnought factory. In his mind, Brandon began to evaluate the structure. 10 stories. Probably a basement. He turned to the group. "Ok, group one with me, and group two with Daniel. Let's do this." Daniel went to the right, and Brandon led his men to the left side. Both groups hopped into a drainage ditch by the razor-wire fence. Brandon peered at the door. Two guards stood there.
"Lucius... you there?" Lucius stirred from his spot. "Yeah. What's up?" "You see those guards at the door?" "Yeah..." "You take the one on the right. I'll take the left. On three. One..." Both of them took aim with their sniper rifles. "...two..." Both were estimating wind speed, distance, and arc. "...three!" Gunshots. Both guards dropped dead. "Nice shot, Lucius." "No problem. You not too bad yourself."
Brandon chuckled and signaled his men up to the door. Brandon pulled out his A7 Shotgun. He turned to Daniel. "Ready to blow the door?" "Ready." "Breach on three. One. Two. Three!" The door blew open. Only one guard was at the front desk. He stood no chance. Bullets flew everywhere. The guard took at least 4 bullets before he went down. Brandon ran to him and checked his pulse. "He's dead." "Are you sure?" Larry looked at him sarcastically.
Brandon laughed a bit as he walked down the hallway. He went to the door, slightly opened it, and looked inside. There were three dreadnoughts on one side in a repair area. The repairs had just been finished, it looked like. The right side of the room was nothing but Dreadnoughts. "Alright. Daniel, take your team and do what you need to do. My team, let's play with C4."

Rules of Engagement 1-3-4
Daniel nodded to Brandon and motioned for Kurt and the smuggler, Jazer, to follow him. He made his way to the end of the hallway to a doorway leading to a stairwell. Daniel spoke into his comlink, “Rifle 3-7 this is Slyfox, do you copy, over...” Lucius said, “I read you loud and clear Slyfox, over…” Daniel spoke, “Good, I was just testing the radio, do you see our position, over?” Lucius confirmed, “I see you, I am in position to see this entire side of the building, over…” Daniel returned, “Excellent, be covering us every step of the way, over and out.”
Daniel motioned Kurt and Jazer to each side of the door as he cautiously opened it. Daniel said, “Jazer, did HQ give us a floor plan of the building?” “Yes, but it is pretty outdated, we only know the basics of the facility,” said Jazer. “Affirmative, you take point and take us by the most direct route to where their communications are located,” Daniel ordered. Jazer nodded in agreement and started heading up the stairwell with Daniel and Kurt following close behind.
The team stopped in front of the door to the next floor as Daniel received a message from Lucius on the radio. “This is Rifle 3-7 to Slyfox, over…” Lucius said. “This is Slyfox, what is it?” Daniel answered. Lucius continued, “Report, multiple tangos on your current floor as well as their communications. Unless you want a prolonged fire fight, I suggest you attempt another way, over.” “Copy thanks for the heads up, over and out,” said Daniel. Jazer exclaimed, “But this is the only way onto this floor! We need to destroy the communications on this level so that…” Kurt interrupted, “Calm down Jazer! We are well aware of what we need to do, Daniel why don’t we make use of those.” He pointed to a metal grate above the doorway to the next floor of the building; the grate obviously led to the air conditioning vents in the ceiling of the next floor and could be used to avoid detection. “Good idea Kurt! Jazer, I’ll need a boost.”
Jazer hoisted Daniel up a few feet while Kurt watched the window for any approaching soldiers. Daniel loosened the latch off the gate which swung open easily. After which, Daniel climbed into the air duct, followed quickly by Kurt and Jazer. The smuggler said, “That was a good idea colonel…” Kurt quickly returned, “Cut the chatter, they will be able to hear us from below; which room is it?” Jazer, recovering from the reprimand, whispered, “Uh, it is the second room on the left.” “Blast!” said Daniel, “Lucius won’t be able to cover us there. Oh well, we will just have to make do with out him for this part.”
The team made their way through the air ducts listening to the conversation below. “Report down to entrance one, there seemed to be sort of disturbance,” a communications officer stated. “Yes sir, also commandant Nova wanted you to know that he wanted all messages that are being sent to his office stopped for now,” a security officer said. Daniel whispered, “that’s our man, we go to his office after this job.” Daniel, Kurt, and Jazer moved in position over the opening to the air vent that led down to the room. As he peered down into the room from the ceiling, Daniel formulated a plan and said, “Kurt, you get the door, Jazer you can get the officer with the radio, on my mark……NOW!”
The three men jumped into the room. Kurt, as he was falling, kicked the door closed in one swift motion, and Jazer landed on the communications officer and dispatched him with a knife. Daniel quickly shot off two rounds from his silenced AUC-X7 which took down two soldiers while Kurt finished off the last enemy with a round from his silenced assault rifle. Daniel motioned for Jazer to sabotage the communications, while Kurt finished checking the rest of the room. Kurt nodded to Daniel, “Tangos down”
Daniel radioed Brandon and Lucius over the comlink, “This is Slyfox to Rifle 3-7 and Jacobs, Communications are down, repeat, communications are down; you may both proceed with the plan, Rifle 3-7, fire at will, over and out.” Brandon replied, “Got that colonel, over.” Lucius answered, “Copy that Slyfox, this is what I’ve been waiting for; triggers down, over.” Lucius raised his rifle into position and began the process of picking off the guards one by one; they were unaware of their impending demise.
Jazer looked around the room and saw Kurt watching the movement of the guards through a small window in the door, Daniel began booting up a micro computer that was formerly the dead communication officer’s. Jazer inquired, “What are you doing, colonel?” Daniel answered, “I am finding out where the commandant’s office is.” Jazer asked further, “How?” “I am using a map that was formerly put on this computer to be used for fire-drills. The map names every room in the building and the quickest route to escape a fire. Basically, it tells us the quickest way to the V.I.P. and the easiest way out of here.” Jazer, a little surprised by Daniel’s technical knowledge, asked “Wow, where did you learn that?” “Boy scouts.”
Kurt tapped Daniel on the shoulder, “Hurry up!” he whispered, “Whatever you’re doing, do it fast because guards are coming this way!” Daniel nodded, “Affirmative. Jazer, take the communications officer’s pass key, we will need it.” Daniel spoke to Lucius over the comlink, “Rifle 3-7, this is Slyfox, can you ensure that the hall is clear so we can make our way to the elevator across the hall, over…” Lucius answered, “Copy that Slyfox, make your move in about thirty seconds over…” Daniel returned, “Ten-four, Slyfox out.”
Daniel, Kurt, and Jazer made their way to the door and waited for the seconds to count down. Kurt cautiously opened the door and checked both ways; he then signaled for the other two to follow him. Daniel motioned for Jazer to use the pass-key to open the elevator doors. The doors opened silently and the three stepped inside. “Top floor,” Daniel said. Jazer warned, “Hurry! Someone is coming down the hallway!” The three heard Lucius say over the comlink, “Not any more, tango down.” Daniel said, “Thanks. Rifle 3-7 what is the bogey situation on the top floor, over…” Lucius answered back, “Minimal, but be advised, the men on the top floor appear to well-armed and trained, over…” Daniel said, “Acknowledged, over and out…”
The three men stepped out into a lobby area and Daniel pointed and said, “Those stairs lead to the roof, that’s our escape. The hallway over there leads to an officer’s lounge, and those two double doors lead to our target." Kurt spoke over the comlink, “Rifle 3-7, this is Marauder-1, we need to ensure that this top floor is clear of bogies, do you copy, over?” Lucius spoke back, “Copy Marauder-1, counting their breaths, over…” While Kurt spoke to Lucius, Daniel radioed Brandon Jacobs, “Jacobs, this is Slyfox; we are about to capture the target, pick us up on the roof, over…” Brandon returned, “Gotcha’, colonel, we’ll be there…”
Daniel motioned to Kurt and Jazer, “Let’s move, remember: we need the V.I.P. ALIVE! Kurt, what can you see in the other room with the thermal setting on your goggles?” “I am getting two guards at the door, one in an adjacent room and two in the center, one sitting down, most likely the V.I.P.; that’s a total of five.” Kurt said. Daniel communicated to the team, “Alright, Jazer take the guard on the left, Kurt the one on the right. Then, Jazer you get the guy in the room adjacent, and I’ll get the V.I.P. and the last guy. Move in 3…2…1…NOW!”
The three burst into the room, Kurt and Jazer, took out the two guards with no difficulty. Daniel had immediately raced across the room not sure which man to fire upon. Daniel yelled for the two men to get on the floor. Up close Daniel could immediately tell that neither of the men were the V.I.P. the team was looking for. Both men simultaneously went for their weapons and Daniel and Kurt had no choice but to open fire. The two guards fell to the ground dead. Daniel looked around the room only to find Jazer about to open the door to the next room. As Jazer headed for the door, Kurt yelled through the comlink “Auto turrets!” Then Daniel yelled for Jazer to wait but it was too late. As soon as Jazer opened the door, two auto turrets mounted on the ceiling unleashed a spray of bullets where Jazer was standing. Kurt dove across the room and knocked him out of the way but not before two rounds had injured Jazer. Daniel and Kurt took position on either side of the door.
Daniel yelled, “Jazer! Are you alright?” Jazer, with a weakened voice, answered, “I’ll live, but I’ve been hit in the leg, I won’t be able to walk.” Kurt said, “Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it, Just cover our back while we try and get the V.I.P.” Daniel spoke over the comlink, “Rifle 3-7 is there anyway to eliminate the auto turrets from your position?” Lucius answered, “That’s a negative, Slyfox, the turrets are too far in the building for me to get a clear shot…” Jazer interrupted, “Colonel, the alarm has been sounded, we better do something fast!” Kurt thought for a moment and said, “Daniel, the weakness of the auto turrets is the imaging device!” Daniel concurred, “We will only have a chance for each of us to get one shot off before the auto turret opens fire and hits us.” Kurt said, “Let’s give it a try anyways, 3…2…1…GO!”
Daniel and Kurt pivoted around the corner. Time seemed to slow for Jazer as he watched the two commandoes take aim as the two auto turrets were locking on. The turrets would surely riddle the two soldiers with bullets if Daniel and Kurt missed. Sparks flew everywhere as the imaging device on both turrets went up in a cloud of smoke. Jazer exclaimed, “Amazing, you did it! That shot was one in one-hundred; I can’t believe you did it!” Daniel and Kurt cautiously made their way into the room. Suddenly, the V.I.P. made a break for the door, but a solid blow to the head from the stock of Daniel’s gun put him out of commission.
Daniel said, “Kurt, cuff him, and bring him out of this room, Jazer, I am going to have to carry you if you can’t walk. How’s the leg?” Jazer returned, “Bad, colonel, I stopped the bleeding but I can’t put any pressure on it.” Kurt came into the room dragging the V.I.P., and he bent down and checked Jazer. He said, “You’ll live, Daniel radio Lucius and Brandon.” Daniel followed-through, “team Viper-1, this is Slyfox, we have the package. Slyfox, Maurader-1 and Smuggler will await your extract on the roof of the facility; Rifle 3-7 head to the roof of your building.” “Copy,” said Lucius. Brandon answered, “Copy that boss-man, we will be there.” Daniel hoisted Jazer over his back just as Kurt did with the V.I.P. They made their way to the stairwell and climbed onto the roof. Daniel waved to Lucius, who was in the opposite building from them packing up. All they could do now was wait.

The team in the Dreadnought hanger was having some fun. Throwing C4 like footballs to each other as they laced the place with explosives. Brandon took several huge packs of C4 and planed them on fuel line, fuel tanks, and key structure supports. Suddenly he heard crackling on the radio. He ran back to the Dreadnought he was going to use and took the radio. He heard Daniel's voice on the radio. "team Viper-1, this is Slyfox, we have the package. Slyfox, Maurader-1 and Smuggler will await your extract on the roof of the facility; Rifle 3-7 head to the roof of your building." Brandon picked up the radio and heard Lucius say something, then he said "Copy that boss-man, we will be there.”
Brandon hopped out of the dreadnought. "Alright you bums! Time to rock'n'roll!" All of a sudden, alarms began blaring. Suddenly several soldiers appeared out of what seemed nowhere. They didn't waste any time in firing at Brandon's group. Larry went down in the fire. Brandon started dragging him to the ship as they all began retreating.
They finally got to the ships. Everyone took their positions. Brandon got onto the radio. "Alright D3, go get Daniel and his team. D2, cover me! Weapons powering up. Let 'em have it!" Brandon turned the dreadnought toward the soldiers. He and the other dreadnought started firing at the soldiers. The soldiers were helpless to stop them.
Finally, a voice came over the radio. It was Larry. "Alright. We got em. Let's get out of here." "Alrighty. Lucius, you copy?" He waited, and Lucius finally answered. "Copy, I'm ready to go." "Ok you're gonna have to bear with me on this. This is gonna be close. You'll have to jump to the dreadnought." "Jump? are you crazy?" "I know you think I'm nuts, but you have to trust me. Ready?" "Ready as I'll ever be..." "Ok. Here we go..."
Brandon hit the button on the detonator. "Bombs away!!!" The dreadnought sped off through the massive building. Dodging large obstacles and speeding through flames, they blasted out of the buildings. Brandon saw Lucius. "Alright Lucius. Here I come." "I'm not so sure about this..." "You have to trust me. Ok.. Here we go. Jump now JUMP NOW!"

Rules of Engagement 1-3-6
Lucius woke up. He started for a moment until he realized where he was; it had been a long night. After leaping from the building onto the dreadnought, the Viper-1 team had barely escaped the explosions and debris from the dreadnought facility. After a couple hours, which seemed like an eternity, the team made it back to New Chicago. Lucius barely took the time to clean his rifle and remove his gear before collapsing into his bunk. His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. “Come in,” Lucius said as a guard entered the room, “General Harrison wishes to see you in the debriefing room.” Lucius nodded, “I’ll be there.”
The guard saluted and left the room closing the door behind him. Lucius got ready and made his way as quickly as he could with his stiff muscles to the debriefing room. As Lucius walked he noticed that soldiers around him seemed to be preparing for something; he could only wonder what it was. Lucius made his way to the main building nodding to familiar faces as he walked. A guard showed him into the debriefing room. As he entered, Lucius noticed that both Daniel and Kurt were present, both of whom nodded a greeting to Lucius. In addition, some smugglers involved in the mission were there; however, Brandon was no where to be seen. As Lucius sat down, General Harrison walked into the room.
“Good morning gentleman, I trust you slept well last night after a job well done. Viper-1 completed its mission perfectly with only two injuries, Jazer and Larry, both of whom will be back to health soon enough. Every person performed well, and we are especially grateful for the help that the Fletcher brothers provided to us.” Both Daniel and Kurt nodded as General Harrison continued, “Just so you know, the Dreadnoughts we captured have been moved to the Raven Research Facility-1, some distance from here where they will be tested and further understood by our scientists and technicians. Thank you again for all of your hard work; you are all dismissed, except for Lucius.”
Lucius, puzzled as to why he was asked to stay and why the Fletcher brothers were staying as well, made his way over to the general. General Harrison spoke, “Lucius your performance in the last several missions has been superb. We have been greatly impressed with your work to the point that we are going to offer you two choices which will decide you future in the AU forces. The first choice allows you to stay here on Earth-2 and begin training a covert sniper group. You will also be promoted to the rank of captain. However, the second is much more dangerous. The second choice is not standard military procedures at all, that I assure you. You will be going on a recon to Apothos with Daniel and Kurt Fletcher. There, you will be conducting surveillance to figure out the weaknesses of the planet and where it would be best to land our troops. In addition, you will be sabotaging various components of the APM defense network. Obviously, I don’t expect you to destroy the major parts, those are too well-guarded, but I do wish for you to create certain annoyances for the APM. You will be working under cover as a civilian, and once you are on the planet, we will be unable to extract you until we have a foothold there and that won’t be for a while. So, what is your answer?”
Lucius was about to choose the first option when a soldier burst into the room. “General Harrison, sir, the APM have destroyed the Raven research Facility! Only three scientists were able to be evacuated.” General Harrison, controlling himself as best he could, said “Thank you, get out.” Lucius, with anger welling inside of him turned the general, “I’m going to Apothos

Rules of Engagement 1-3-7
(Started in Mechopolis, these events take place in New Chicago)
“Alright, if that’s your decision Lucius,” said General Harrison, “You’re going to be briefed immediately, please sit down again.” “I’ll stand, thank you, sir.” Lucius said controlling his anger. The sniper could see that Kurt and Daniel hadn’t even shifted their stance since the news had been delivered; they were obviously ready for what was to come. General Harrison began speaking, “Since Kurt and Daniel have already been briefed, and I’ll be informing only you Lucius. While I and the rest of the AU forces are here cleaning up this mess, you, Kurt, and Daniel will, as I already told you, be performing a series of missions behind enemy lines on Apothos.” Lucius interjected, “But, sir, how are we supposed to get on to this planet?” “Simple, you’re going to walk in.”
General Harrison continued, “Recently, a neutral no-fire zone has been declared in the middle between Apothos’ and Earth-2’s orbits. This zone is a space hub with a few docking stations used for any refugees wishing to change planets. It has been agreed that no one will be fired upon in that area, no matter who’s winning the war.” “But once we get through to and land on Apothos, won’t we be detained immediately?” asked Lucius. “That is where you must think a little deeper soldier. We already have fake I.D.’s ready for you. You will only look like people who docked from Galthos looking to escape to the ‘safety’ of Apothos. So, like I said, you will walk right through their security in the space hub. However, you will be landing in the slums of Apothos; the security in other sections of the planet is too tight. Then, you will meet up with a few smugglers left as managers of Brandon’s base there. Again, there will maybe only be one or two of them, but they will have all the equipment you’ll need. With those smugglers, you will be able keep close contact with us to get your missions. From there, you will turn the planet into a veritable firestorm.”
“Sounds good,” said Lucius “But, I still am not suited to this kind of combat. I mean, I am sure Kurt and Daniel have had some undercover training, but I am an Arcia United Sniper from the Corps; if I see an Apothos soldier, I just react. Also, Apothos isn’t the best place for a sniper; sure, there are tall buildings, but no wide open spaces. Any rifles I use will have to be small caliber, compact designs, and even then I would be sniping rarely. I would have to have a lot of CQB experience, of which I have essentially zero. So, why choose me?” “I was just going to explain that. There, once you make it to the smugglers, you will begin you training in the small facility they have there. Lucius, I realize that this is out of your comfort zone, but your side-arm as a sniper is a compact machine pistol, how far up is a real sub-machine gun? You can do this. You will be trained by Kurt and Daniel to increase your versatility in combat weapons.”
“I guess you’re right, sir, I do remember some training in close quarters defense with a machine pistol. I suppose this is possible,” Lucius answered. “So you’re still in?” “Yes.” “That’s good, because you’ll be leaving immediately.” “What?! But we just finished a mission! I mean, sir, I am not that kind of a soldier!” “Well, you better work up to being that kind of a soldier because you just accepted a mission, and now you have to finish it. Kurt and Daniel you can go ahead of Lucius and get prepared for the mission, remember no metallic objects!” Kurt answered, “Understood.” “Lucius you will go with Jazer, he will lead you to the transport, once you’re in that hub, you’re on your own. If you have any questions, just follow Kurt and Daniel’s lead. Dismissed.”
